Who knew the bite from a tiny tick could change a life in a matter of moments?
Jaclyn had been living her dream as a wilderness instructor while guiding backpacking expeditions in the high mountains of Wyoming, when suddenly she experienced a traumatic, emotional, and frightening illness that brought her to her knees. Follow her on this epic journey through wilderness adventures and through the darkness of an illness that is still misunderstood…
A Mainer, a lifelong lover of canoeing and camping, as well as a trained wilderness guide, Jaclyn should have been well versed in the symptoms of Lyme disease, yet her training did not prepare her for the myriad of bizarre symptoms or disabling effects of the disease or it’s co-infections.
In this story, Jaclyn shares her wilderness adventures—guiding you to experience the elements of wild places through deeply moving descriptions. She brings you to the very bottom—being bed-ridden with an illness with no known cure, with no hope, while experiencing delusions and forgetfulness. Jaclyn takes you to the pivotal moment that led her to finally spiral out of the unknown and back to the wilderness and life in a whole different way. This tale is of an unbelievable journey back to health—a feat that left many doctors baffled.

“When I was a kid I too loved the outdoors and all the things others might consider odd for a girl, playing in dirt and mix for example. And one of my favorite sayings just like you is work smart and not hard, it just makes sense. I love how the author is very detailed when explaining her journey to happiness within. Sometimes even when we don’t understand why things happen or when they will be fixed, if they can be fixed at all, we find our happy place so we can smile anyways.” -Charmaine
“Jaclyn shares a healing story that everyone must hear/read. Sharing her early life passions and the journey to recognize her leadership talents in the wilderness, Jaclyn writes straight from her heart with detail and courage. She offers a poignant story of the devastating effects of chronic lyme disease, advocating for herself amidst western medicine's treatment limitations. I greatly appreciated her honesty and felt myself celebrating her triumphs. One of my favorite quotes: "...navigate your life by your inner light and be ok with not knowing everything."
Jaclyn, thank you for dreaming all that is possible! Your story is inspiring.” -Deneen Bernier
